Keilor find out how they measure up to VTCA big guns

Keilor got the chance to see how they measure up against the big guns of the VTCA senior division on a blockbuster weekend of cricket.

It was a daunting prospect on paper, facing premiership contenders Yarraville Club and Spotswood on consecutive days, but the Blues were up for the challenge and came out looking a million dollars.

They produced an eye-catching brand of cricket both days, first getting into a winnable position against the Clubbers on day one of their two-day contest, then beating the Woodsmen in a one-day game a day later.

On Saturday, Keilor had arguably the toughest assignment in local cricket against long-time powerhouse Yarraville Club at Keilor Recreation Reserve … and finished the day odds-on to upset the Clubbers after bowling them out for just 142, and putting on a commanding 2-81 in reply.

On Sunday, Keilor maintained the rage, accounting for Spotswood by 43 runs back at Keilor Recreation Reserve.

The Blues restricted the Woodsmen to 9-113 off their maximum 40 overs after two wickets apiece to Dinesh Daminda, Dan Schuppan, Chris Lee and Kaushal Lokuarachchi.

Keilor made a shaky start to its chase, limping to 5-48, but recovery came in an unbroken 108-run stand between Lachlan Sneddon (45no) and Robert Clements (69no).

In north-west division, St Albans posted 169 off 60.1 overs against Laverton on the road, thanks largely to in-form opener Simon Lambert (71).

The Saints managed to take two wickets before stumps to leave the home side in a nervous position at 2-19.

Keilor Park should have no worries wrapping up first innings points against Haig Fawkner at Ray Davies Reserve.

The Devils are 0-52 in response to the visitors’ dismal total of 95.

PEGS have also got the upper hand, easing to 0-19 in reply to Aberfeldie’s 167.

In north A1, Sunshine (0-8) requires 179 more runs to beat Sydenham-Hillside (8-186dec) with 10 wickets in hand, while Sunshine YCW (75 and 0-9) lost its first innings to Jacana (117) on a day when 20 wickets fell at Jacana Reserve.
