It was a case of close, but not close enough for Keilor in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association season division on Saturday.
Facing Westmeadows, Keilor struggled to do any damage with the ball as the Warriors openers batted through the whole innings.
The Warriors made 0-194 with captain Donovan Pell finishing 112 not out.
The Blues started well and at 2-148 had a good launch pad for the back end of the innings.
The wickets started to fall and the Blues finished 7-185.
Nathan Beever top scored with 69 before being run out.
Deer Park got its first win in the senior division, beating Craigieburn.
Craigieburn was restricted to 126 with Ricky Suvada taking 4-26 for the Lions.
The Lions got the runs with nearly nine overs remaining, making 5-129.
Hashan Wanasekara top scored with 62.
St Albans won a thriller against the Druids, hitting the winning runs on the final ball.
The Druids made 8-130 from their overs.
Shanaka Silva took three wickets for the Saints.
St Albans needed the whole 40 overs to get the runs, finishing 5-131. Geeth Alwis was the stand out with the bat, finishing with 60 not out.
Sunshine United was no match for last season’s premiers Haig Fawkner.
The Tigers made 6-146 with Nalin Amarathunga scoring 50.
Haig Fawkner made 5-147 in reply.
It was a Trent Lawford masterclass for the Yarraville Club against Aberfeldie.
Lawford was at his destructive best against Aberfeldie, helping guide the Clubbers to their first win of the season.
Lawford made a massive 151 off 86 balls which included 15 sixes and seven fours, as the Clubbers made 7-278 from their 40 overs.
The Clubbers bowlers then backed it up, bowling Aberfeldie out for 142 in the 33 over.
Heath Beveridge took 5-43 off eight overs.
In division 1, Sydenham-Hillside made it two from two, beating Seddon. The Storm made 7-176 before bowling Seddon out for 148.
Sunshine is also undefeated after beating PEGS.
PEGS made 8-201 from its overs, before the Crows made 4-204 on the back of 97 from Kaushal Lokuarachchi.
In division 2, Royal Park-Brunswick made 7-148 before bowling Keilor Park out for 117.
Meanwhile in division 3, Caroline Springs beat Williamstown Imperials.
The Falcons made 6-180 before bowling the Imperials out for 114.
Sunshine Heights lost to Pascoe Vale Hadfield. Sunshine Heights was bowled out chasing 6-182.
Grand United’s match with Sunbury didn’t go ahead, with the two teams sharing the points.
In division 5, Burnside Springs lost to Melton South Royals and Sunshine YCW lost to East Coburg.
