Deer Park will get to unfurl its premiership flag in the opening round of the 2018 Western Region Football League division 1 season.

Next year’s fixtures were released last week, with the five-time defending champion Lions to face Altona Vikings in the season-opener at John McLeod Oval on April 14

The Lions will not have to wait long for a grand final re-match to take place against Sunshine Kangaroos.

The two sides will lock horns in the fourth round.

Sunshine’s first game since its heartbreaking grand final loss will be a cracker on home soil against Werribee Districts at Kinder Smith Reserve.

St Albans was one of the biggest movers and shakers in the off season and will attract a lot of attention next season.

The new-look Saints will host Hoppers Crossing in what has become a traditional season-opener between the two clubs.

The question on everyone’s lips going into that game will be whether new recruit and former West Coast Eagles star Daniel Kerr will be available for selection.

In division 2, Albanvale will face newly promoted Parkside on the road at Henry Turner Reserve in its season-opener.
