Hillside marches to derby win

Hillside claimed bragging rights over local rival Taylors Lakes in Essendon District Football League division 1 at rain-drenched Hillside Reserve on Saturday.

The Sharks were at their stifling best in the 54-point win, keeping the Lions to three goals.

In attack, Hillside kicked a winning score in the wet.

The Sharks finished with 11 goals, including an exhilarating six-goal final term when ground conditions were at their worst.

Raafat Rachrache was the main source of goals for the Sharks with four majors.

Rachrache is the team’s second leading goalkicker for the season with 18 goals.

Matthew Patane, Hillside’s leading goal kicker, added three to take his season tally to 22.

Victor Micallef, Bevan Newell and Lachlan Rayner were the other stand-outs for Hillside.

For Taylors Lakes, there were only single goalkickers on a tough afternoon at the office.

While the Sharks are in the finals mix, the Lions are way down in third last with just two wins from 10 games and under threat of relegation.

Hillside will continue its finals push when it hits the road to play second-placed East Keilor at Overland Reserve on Saturday, while Taylors Lakes will be aiming to cause an upset when it hosts top-of-the-ladder Tullamarine at Lionheart Reserve.

In premier division, Keilor secured a 71-point win over Glenroy to move to 10-0 for the season.

In division 2, Burnside Heights was pipped by 11 points at home to Moonee Valley in a top three clash.
