Sunshine Heights believes it has a well balanced side as it aims to return to finals in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association division 3.
After their best season in a number of seasons, the Heights are hoping to continue to build under Wayne Miller.
Miller said they were feeling pretty good heading into this season.
“We’ve got a good balanced squad, with some good senior players and some youth,” he said.
“We’ve looked to add some more senior bowlers into the squad. We’ve got good balance in our A-turf and B-turf and spread through the whole club.”
Miller said they had lost some of their younger players to higher levels.
Leo Hatzoglou has gone to Melbourne Uni, while Joshua Luca has gone to Melton and Siddhant Bindroo has gone to the Greenvale Kangaroos.
“It’s one of the parts of community cricket,” he said. “It’s about giving opportunities to play at higher levels of cricket which is great.”
After finishing fifth last season, Miller said they were aiming to play this season.
“We finished one game out of the finals last year,” he said.
“We want to build on that. We’ve been talking about gelling and team work and performing each game.
“There will be guys who will get more opportunities to step up and get more runs and play more of a role.”
Overall, Miller said things were looking good at the club as they field eight senior teams and have had an increase in junior numbers.
Sunshine Heights and the rest of the competition were again left on the sidelines on Saturday, as play was cancelled for a third straight week.
Miller said he had never seen a delay to the start of the season like this before due to the weather. He said it could still be a few weeks before they get on the pitch.
