Hamilton, Braybrook part ways after 18 months

The Jason Hamilton era is over at the Braybrook Football Club.

Hamilton handed in his resignation to the Brookers after 18 months in charge as coach of the senior team.

The Brookers came a long way under Hamilton’s tutelage, making the finals last season and building their respect in the Western Region Football League division 3, but it will ultimately be remembered as an unfulfilled partnership with the side not tasting the ultimate glory.

Hamilton leaves with the Brookers a game and a half outside the top four with five rounds to go and a long shot to play finals.

“It was basically a mutual agreement of where we’re at,” Brookers president Bryan Patten said.

“We had high hopes this year and Jason’s done a great job over the last 18 months since he’s been there, but it was time to part ways.

“He’s come to the club and said that he thinks it’s time to part ways and we’ve accepted his resignation.

“There’s no hard feelings or anything like that.

“He’s been great for the club over the time that he’s been there and wish him the best moving forward.”

Hamilton bought into the one club culture at Braybrook.

He set new and improved standards among the seniors and reserves players.

“He’s been great for the club on and off the field,” Patten said.

“He’s supported everyone down there and gets down and watches the netball and the women’s football.

“His family is heavily involved as well.

“Sometimes it comes to a time in football when you need to part ways.”

Braybrook has promoted senior assistant coach John Hughes to caretaker coach for the remainder of the season.

Hughes has been Hamilton’s assistant since he joined the club, which should make it a smooth transition.

“He’s across the game plan and the boys get along well with him,” Patten said.

“He’s got that club-first mentality, which is something you like your coaches to have.

“He’s very big on discipline and rewarding guys for effort around the club and on the training track as well.”

Braybrook will advertise for the position of senior coach and go through a process to appoint its coach for 2020.
