Green Gully headed to Ballarat

Green Gully is hitting the road this week as it heads to Ballarat for this round of the National Premier League season.

The Cavaliers will face South Melbourne in both the seniors and under-21 game on Saturday at the Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility.

The move to play a home game in Ballarat, is part of the club’s focus to reach out to the wider football community and celebrate a shared love of the game in what’s been a rough two years for sport across Australia.

Green Gully has previous played games in Ballarat as a visitor but this is the first time they’ve hosted a game in the area.

Cavaliers media manager Brandon Hutchinson said they were calling for the people of Ballarat to come and watch one of the competition’s most anticipated games.

He said it’s hoped that they can be community and build a relationship that can grow in the future.

“It’s important that as we return to a post-covid normal that we make the effort to celebrate things like community, especially in sport,” he said.

“The Ballarat community has been great to us in the past so we felt it was right that we come together and celebrate a shared love of the game now that we can.”

The under-21s will kick off action at 1pm, with the seniors to follow at 3.45pm.

The Cavaliers have had a good start to the season with three wins and a draw and sitting fifth with South Melbourne and Avondale leading the pack.

On Saturday, they lost to 1-0 to Avondale.
