Green Gully can’t keep up its winning ways

Green Gully’s seven-game unbeaten run has come to an end in the National Premier League soccer.

The Cavaliers went down 2-1 to Bentleigh Greens on home soil at Green Gully Reserve on Friday night.

Trailing by a goal at half-time, Green Gully restored parity through a goal to Kieran Dover.

Dover has been dangerous in front of goal for the Cavaliers this season with the goal being his sixth in nine games.

But Green Gully could not hold on for a share of the points.

Substitute James Kelly fired Bentleigh back in front in the 69th minute and the visitors would keep their lead.

Green Gully remains entrenched in the top six.

The fourth-placed Cavaliers will be looking to strengthen their grip when they travel to South Melbourne on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Melbourne Knights are struggling as they slumped to a third straight loss.

The Knights went down by a single goal to Kingston City at The Grange Reserve on Saturday night.

Damian Iaconis scored the winner for Kingston in the 69th minute.

The third-last Knights will be looking to turn their form around when they host Avondale at Knights Stadium on Friday night.

In NPL women’s, Calder United powered to a 3-0 win over Heidelberg United at Olympic Village.

Catherine Zimmerman scored a double for Calder, including one from the spot in the dying seconds of the first half and then another in the 85th minute.

Zimmerman comfortably leads the league in scoring with 15 goals in nine games.

Aleksandra Sinclair also scored for Calder in the 53rd minute.

Undefeated Calder is two points clear on top of the ladder ahead of a home game against Geelong Galaxy United at Keilor Park Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
