The Essendon District Football League Women’s competition will have two divisions this year.

Having had a stand alone competition last season for the first time, the competition is set to expand from 13 teams to 20 teams this season.

Both divisions, premier division and division 1, will have 10 teams.

The top 10 teams from last season make up the premier division competition this year.

Last year’s premiers Pascoe Vale heads the list which includes Burnside Heights, Sunbury Kangaroos, Aberfeldie, Sunbury Lions, Westmeadows, Keilor, Strathmore, Craigeburn and Hillside.

Keilor, which had two teams last season, one in the Northern Football League and one in the EDFL, will have just one team this season, fielded in the EDFL premier division.

Roxburgh Park and Keilor Park which finished 12th and 13th last year are among the division 1 sides. Avondale Heights, which had a combined team with Taylors Lakes last season, is set to have a standalone side this season and will also be in division 1.

Several clubs are set to field teams for the first time this year, all in the division 1 competition.

Essendon Doutta Stars, Tullamarine, Moonee Valley, Coburg Districts, Greenvale and Maribyrnong Park have made the move into women’s football after having fielded junior sides in recent years.

Aberfeldie will field a second side, which will play in division 2.

The season will start on the weekend of April 6, with the grand final on the weekend of August 24.
