EDFL to award premierships

The Essendon District Football League will award premierships in all senior and junior divisions.

The league board voted to award the premierships, despite no finals series going ahead due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

All metropolitan leagues last week called off their seasons, with lockdowns unlikely to ease in the near future.

Strathmore will be awarded the premier division men’s premiership, with East Keilor and Moonee Valley awarded the division 1 and 2 premierships respectively.

In the women’s competition, Keilor has been awarded the premier division premiership.

It’s a Moonee Valley double in the division 1 and 2 women’s competitions.

As well as awarding premierships, promotion and relegation in the senior men’s competitions will still go ahead.

It means East Keilor will play in premier division next season, while a winless Craigieburn has been relegated to division 1.

Joining the Eagles in division 1 is division 2 premiers Moonee Valley. Taylors Lakes will be in division 2 after being relegated.

The league has also announced its salary cap for next season.

Premier division will be at $100,000, division 1 at $90,000 and it will be $70,000 for division 2.
