Sunshine Eagles are hoping luck starts to turn their way in Baseball Victoria summer league division 1.
The Eagles have been able to match it with the top teams for the most part, but in some crucial moments things haven’t gone their way.
The Eagles have lost two of their last three games either side of Christmas, and the third a midweek game last Tuesday was a draw.
Eagles coach Stuart Clayton said while they weren’t where they would like to be, there’s still plenty of time left in the season.
The Eagles currently sit sixth overall and third in their division. The top two teams of each division will play finals.
“The first game back after the break we had a couple out injured,” he said. “We just didn’t play well.
“Last night [Tuesday] we were in front for a lot of the game, but we let them back into the game.
“We have been in most games, but a couple of things have not gone our way. We have had a good run the last three to four years.
“Hopefully things turn around. There’s still 10 or 11 rounds to go.”
Clayton said the club’s strongest line up available should be in action in the next few games. The club had lost a couple of key players for the rest of the season including Clayton Campbell, who has signed a contract in America.
In a bonus for the Eagles, Jeremy Young returned to pitching on Tuesday.
The Eagles will face Essendon on Saturday, the second match up between the teams in the space of less than a week.
Clayton said they had a run of really winnable matches coming up.
“We’ve got a few matches against sides towards the bottom of the ladder. Hopefully we can get a few wins and fight our way back up.”
