There has been no drop in motivation for Keilor Park despite having secured promotion with five rounds left in the Victorian Premier League women’s competition.
The Eagles set the aim of going at least one spot better this year to ensure promotion and a spot in the National Premier League women’s, the top competition in the state.
Sitting behind Avonalde, the two teams have already secured their spots in the NPLW for 2026.
Eagles coach Liam Drury said a lot of hard work had been done over the years to get them to this point.
“It is really nice to get it done and it’s so exciting for the club to move forward next year,” he said.
“This has been many years in the making. It’s been the last two for me and a lot of the team.
“It’s a really good program and we’ve been in a good position.”
Drury said this strong season started back in pre-season and their pre-season camp.
He said they thought they had a strong squad heading into the season, but never expected to have secured promotion this early.
“We thought we had a strong start and the expectation was to be promoted,” he said. “A couple of months in, we knew we were in a good spot but never imagined that we would have earned promotion with five weeks remaining.”
The Eagles are sitting five points behind Avondale in the battle for top spot.
Drury said they would do everything they could to finish the year off strongly and see what happens.
The top two sides face each other in the second last round.
“We want to try and win the last four games,” he said. before the weekend’s match.
“We want to keep the pressure on Avondale and we have an eye on finals after that.
“You could think that the group may lose motivation for the remaining matches, but it is far from it.”
The Eagles beat Monash University 6-0 on Friday night.
Drury said that planning is already underway for next year and there’s lots of thoughts on what they want to do.
Now set to be in the top flight, Drury said it would help boost the club even further.
“Hopefully people will see a youthful thinking club and people will hopefully want to join.”
While the Eagles women have sealed promotion, the Eagles men are still in the fight in state league 1 north-west.
The Eagles have slipped to third after losing to ladder leader Banyule City, 5-1.
