Deer Park proved too strong for La Trobe University on Saturday in Northern Football League women’s division 1 competition.
La Trobe had all the running early but couldn’t convert on the scoreboard, kicking just five points for the first quarter to trail by a point at the first break.
Deer Park used the breeze to its advantage in the second quarter, opening up a 23-point break at the main break.
La Trobe was again left to rue missed shots in front of goal, only eating into the margin by 10 points despite holding Deer Park scoreless for the quarter.
Four goals in the final quarter sealed Deer Park’s first win of the season, 9.8 (62)-3.10 (28).
Samantha Greene kicked two goals for La Trobe, with Emily Turnbull was named their best.
In other results, Melbourne University was too strong for VU Western Spurs, Diamond Creek defeated Darebin, Whitehorse defeated Pascoe Vale and Bendigo took on Kew.
In division 2, South Morang got the points against Kew, winning 4.4 (28)-1.3 (9), La Trobe University’s reserves side was held scoreless in its loss to West Preston Lakeside, Diamond Creek got a win against Darebin, Laurimar accounted for Whitehorse and VU Spurs defeated Montmorency.
