Australia’s best male bowler will spearhead Deer Park’s campaign in the Bowls Victoria premier division weekend pennant competition.
Aaron Teys will fly in from New South Wales to play for Deer Park in a massive boost for the club.
Teys has represented Australia more than 100 times and will provide Deer Park with plenty of experience.
He is one of a number of key signings by the club.
Nathan Bush, who has won medals at Australian titles and won a Victorian state title ,has joined the club, along with one of Victoria’s best players Ryan Tainton, who has signed for two seasons.
Head of bowls Mark Casey said it had been a really good off-season for the club. The club though has been thrown a last minute challenge, with their matches now to be played outside, due to their dome collapsing.
“We’ve got about 12 new players,” he said.
“As a whole we are very confident but we are in a tough competition, so we’ll see how we go.”
Casey said they would field the same amount of sides this season, but would look to increase that in the next couple of years.
Casey, who is in his first year at the role, said the club had made a big focus on trying to find ways to get more people to the club and watching matches.
Deer Park is set to kick off its season against Croydon on Sunday, after deadline.
“We should have a good crowd to watch us play,” he said.
“With our premier side we’ve tried to change things up with some Friday night matches, Saturday night matches and Sundays.
“We want to draw a crowd and we wanted to try something different.
“We want to get more people through the doors.”
