Deer Park’s Bowls Victoria weekend metro pennant premier season got off to a less than ideal start with a loss in the grand final rematch on Friday night.

The Parkers hosted the reigning champions, Melbourne, and the result would be the same as it was in the final game of last season, a Melbourne victory.

The Parkers’ hopes took a hit before the opening bowl with Koby and Tyson Cromie both unable to get to the match due to flooding.

It would continue to be a tough night with Melbourne proving too strong, winning 82 (16)-66 (2).

Ryan Tainton’s rink was the only winning one for the Parkers, taking the two points, 19-12.

Jay Bye-Norris’ rink lost 23-18, Ryan Bester’s rink lost 24-10 and Aron Sherriff’s debut for the Parkers, started with a 23-19 loss

The Parkers will be hoping to open their account in round two at home against Yarraville Footscray on Saturday.

It was a better start for Deer Park 2 beating Werribee 95 (14)-67 (4) in division 2, section 2.

Keilor, which finished runners up in its division last season, started with a big 75 (15)- 62 (3) in division 3, section 1.

Jason Silverli and Mark Niecho were the winning skips for Keilor, while Stephen Sheaf’s rink shared the points.
