The bug to coach again has led Mick Andriadis to Deer Park Cricket Club.

Having coached for a number of years at Altona North, Airport West St Christophers and Keilor, Andriadis decided to have a break from coaching.

“I had a break from coaching, but the bug was still there,” he said.

“The opportunity came and Steve [Krstevski] the president at Deer Park gave me a call. I’m glad everything worked out and I’m looking forward to it.

“I want to create something at Deer Park, we don’t want to be a run of the mill side.

“The club has aspirations to play in the senior division and compete in finals regularly.”

Andriadis takes over a side that finished on top of the division 1 ladder last season. The club lost just two matches for the season, with one unfortunately being a semi final to Sunshine.

Andriadis said they expected to have a strong side again.

“At the moment we have a pretty similar side,” he said.

“It’s easy to plan to be there, right in the mix, but we need people to put in the world.

“That is what we are trying our best to achieve.”

Andriadis has signed on for three seasons and is hoping to look to bring some more juniors through in the coming years.

He said his aim to put together a team where they had 15 XI players to choose from each week.

“We want to improve our juniors,” he said.

“We’ll have a look at the young boys and put them on the right path. If they want to learn the game, they will have every chance.

“If they want to play the lower grades and have fun, that’s fine too, as not everyone will want to play first XI.”

Deer Park is set to kick off its Victorian Turf Cricket Association division 1 season on November 13 against Altona North.

Andriadis said the group was looking forward to hitting the field again after a shortened pre-season.
