Cup derby win for Sunshine

Sunshine George Cross secured a hard-fought win against local rival Keilor Park in the FFA Cup on Saturday.

Sunshine, an NPL side, kicked the only goal of the match.

There was nothing easy about the victory, with state league 1 outfit Keilor Park taking the fight up to its more highly fancied rival.

The Park had a number of chances to go in front in both halves but was unable to make them count on the scoreboard.

With Sunshine also struggling to find the back of the net, the match went to extra time.

The deadlock was broken by Sunshine’s Adrian Logozzo, who scored in the 108th minute.

It was a busy Saturday for other Brimbank-based soccer clubs in the FFA Cup.

NPL duo Green Gully and St Albans proved too good for their lower-ranked opponents.

Green Gully defeated Cairnlea 1-0, while St Albans got the better of Northcote City, also 1-0.

The news wasn’t as good for state league 1 side North Sunshine, which was eliminated from the competition 3-0 at the hands of Goulburn Valley Suns.
