Hume City has announced two key signings and a number of re-signings as it aims to remain at the top of the National Premier League ladder.
Undefeated in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19, City has again put together a strong squad.
Last week it announced the signings of Jordan Maricic and Aden Gardner.
Maricic, a former Adelaide United youth product who joins from Adelaide City, will partner Hayden Tennant in Hume’s defensive line-up.
Gardner joins Hume from fellow NPL side Bentleigh Greens. He spent part of 2020 playing with the Brisbane Strikers while there was no soccer being played in Melbourne for much of last year.
The midfielder brings a wealth of experience and has a keen eye for goal.
The club also announced the re-signing of Theo Markelis.
A fan favourite, Markelis has found the back of the net on plenty of occasions for Hume.
Andy Brennan, Umut Bozdugan and Marko Delic have also re-signed.
The signings will help fill the gap of five players departing in the off season.
Captain Harry Monaghan is the biggest name to depart, along with Paul Wilson, Gideon Sweet, Will Hendon and James Kapuranovski.
Coach Nick Hegarty stated on the club’s Facebook page that everybody was trying to get back to where they were this season.
He said this year was a new season, the league had changed and they had to look forward.
The club is in the middle of its pre-season, having played a number of games including one against Melbourne Victory.
