Green Gully and Melbourne Knights started their National Premier League seasons with wins on Friday night.
After a longer than usual break due to last season ending early due to the pandemic, the two sides were itching to get out on the field.
Green Gully started its season against Oakleigh Cannons at Jack Edwards Reserve.
The Cavaliers had to come from behind after trailing 2-1 at half time.
Gianluca Iannucci came on in the second half and had an instant impact, levelling the scores.
The Cavaliers received a penalty in the 88th minute, which Nahuel Bonada converted to seal the 3-2 win.
Melbourne Knights came out firing in their match with Dandenong City, winning 5-0.
Anthony Frangie scored twice in the opening half to set the Knights up.
Steve Sokol, Mohammed Sumaoro, Luka Kolic all scored in the second half to put the icing on the cake.
St Albans Saints had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Port Melbourne Sharks.
The Sharks scored first in the eighth minute, before Joseph Monek levelled the scores in the 28th minute.
Neither side could find a winner.
Altona Magic and Hume City had to settle for a 0-0 draw on Saturday night.
