Burnside Heights has locked in its women’s coaches for next year’s Essendon District Football League season.

The Bears fielded two women’s sides for the first time this year and are planning on having the two teams again next year.

Jeff Stevens will continue on as the coach of the premier division side.

Stevens has been in charge of the side since 2019.

It was a tough year for the side in 2021, with a number of key players missing and injuries making it tough for the side early on.

The Bears pinched two wins late in the season, including upsetting Hillside to secure the WestWaters Cup.

Brooke McKinley has been reappointed coach of the club’s second side.

McKinley, who played for the Bears previously, turned to coaching this year to guide a young Bears side.

Many of the players were playing their first season.

The club is also hoping to get an under-18.5 girls side back up and going after not having the numbers this year.

Christian Freeman, who had been coaching the under-16 girls the last two seasons, will take on the coaching role.
