After a shocking opening round derailment in which it conceded 169 points in a 79-point loss to Tarneit, Braybrook appears to be back on track.
The Bombers notched up their first Western Region Football League division 3 victory on Saturday.
They had to work hard for a 36-point victory over Wyndham Suns on the road at Goddard Street Reserve.
While obviously pleased to get into the winners’ circle, Bombers’ coach Jason Hamilton stopped short of saying his team is officially back.
“I’m still not entirely happy,” he said. “We’ll take the four points though, that’s for sure.”
The Bombers were not disciplined to their structures and might have been punished on another day.
Having gone out on a limb and stated that a grand final appearance was a pass mark, the Bombers have big expectations.
“We weren’t up to our normal silky self again,” Hamilton said. “We were a bit undisciplined in some areas of the game.”
But Hamilton has a strong belief in Braybrook’s list this season.
He would not make such big statements about the Bombers’ ability to be contenders if not.
“We need to put in some hard work and just have to iron out a few little issues, but I’m still really positive,” Hamilton said.
“At lot of people had a go at us when we said our goal for the year is to make the grand final, but we’re still on track.
“I’m pretty confident we can play a big part at the end of the year.”
There were some positive signs in the win over Wyndham.
Forward Paul Cutajar-Milosev was back to his imposing best with seven goals.
“His goals were very telling in the end,” Hamilton said.
Defenders Aidan O’Rafferty and David May came up big when Wyndham had a roll on.
“There were a lot of other blokes who were handy contributors, but those three stood out,” Hamilton said.
Nathan Smith was a strong finisher for Braybrook with four goals. He has kicked nine goals in two games.
Braybrook will host consecutive blockbuster games in the next two weeks. On Good Friday, it will face a rejuvenated Laverton at Pennell Reserve, while at the same venue on Anzac Day, Albanvale will pay it a visit.
“It’s a great honour to play on Good Friday and Anzac Day,” Hamilton said.
“It doesn’t happen in local footy too much so we’re looking forward to it.
“I’m sure we’ll have a lot of other teams coming down to have a look.
“It should be a good crowd for both games.”
