Keilor remains undefeated on top of the Essendon District Football League ladder after its nail-biting win over Essendon Doutta Stars on Saturday.
After four hard-fought quarters, the Blues came out on top by three points, 11.18 (84)-12.9 (81).
Played at the Stars’ Nipper Jordan Oval, Keilor had the chance to blow the match open early in the contest, with 11 scoring shots to five in the first quarter.
But the Blues converted just two of these into goals, and inaccurate kicking left the door ajar for Essendon Doutta Stars to gain ground.
Trailing by 12 points at half-time, the home side put the brakes on the Blues, conceding just three goals while making the most of their chances inside the forward 50. The Stars booted five goals for the quarter to take a one-point advantage into the final term.
True to form this season though, the Blues kept at it to the end, kicking an inaccurate 2.6, which proved enough to get them over the line and keep the club’s perfect record intact.
Keilor captain Dylan Joyce was a standout for his side and was named the Blues’ best player, well supported by Kane Barbuto while, up forward, Dean Galea kicked three goals.
After seven rounds, Keilor is one game clear of Aberfeldie on the premier division ladder, and takes on fifth-placed Maribyrnong Park this week.
Meanwhile in division 1 results, it was a tough day for Taylors Lakes. Craigieburn forward duo Jason and Cameron Cloke, brothers and former AFL players’, put away 21 goals in their side’s 164-point win.
It was better news for Hillside, which defeated Glenroy by 46 points.
