Keilor is hoping to find some consistency to get its season back on track in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division.
The Blues were sitting 1-3 and on the bottom of the ladder heading into the weekend’s one-day double header, which was after deadline.
Blues coach Duncan Harrison before the weekend that they would have liked to have started the season on a better note.
“Being 1-3 isn’t ideal,” he said. “We were looking a little bit more optimistic, so we’re a little bit disappointed.
“This weekend is important for us to square the ledger.”
Harrison said while they had played some good cricket in patches, they hadn’t been able to put it together consistently.
Their only win came back in round one while they fell just short against Westmeadows.
“We’ve been pretty patchy,” he said. “For periods of games we are playing well, but I was speaking to them about not being good enough for long enough.
“Because of that we’re losing some games.”
Harrison said the building of consistency starts at training and then bringing that into game day.
He said they wanted the players to keep backing themselves in and not going into their shells and continue to back in their skills.
“We’ve been doing a bit more specialised things in training,” he said.
“Executing skills time after time. You can turn up and float through training, so we’re been a bit more specific.
“Hopefully we can take that focus through to the weekend.”
Harrison said some of their younger players had put in some good performances, but like with the rest of the side, they’re seeking more consistency across games.
The Blues split their matches on the weekend, losing to Aberfeldie and then beating Deer Park.
It lifted the side off the bottom of the ladder.
With a close competition, every match is vital as teams fight for finals spots.
“Abers is a really good team and then we’ve got Deer Park,” he said. “It’s a really even competition with the exemption of Haig Fawkner. the standout.
“Every other team can go into matches feeling like they can beat any team on the day as long as they turn up.”
Harrison said their second XI had started the season strongly and put out some promising performances.
He said they had some good young and developing players in that side.
The women’s side started its one-day competition in the Cricket Victoria Women’s Community Cricket shield 3 on Sunday, after deadline.
They finished fourth in the T20 competition with two wins and two losses from their completed matches.
Harrison said it had been a frustrating time for the men’s third and fourth XIs due to the weather.
