A strong all-round performance was the key to Keilor getting its second win on the board in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division.
The Blues faced Altona North on Saturday in a one-dayer, after the first day of play was washed out the previous round.
Altona North made 6-178 from its overs after being sent in.
Keilor wasted no time with the run chase, making the runs within 30 overs as it finished 3-181.
For Keilor coach Duncan Harrison, it was the sort of performance they had been keen to see.
“It was good and I thought we played really well,” he said. “It was a balanced game.
“We were tidy with the ball and in the field and then cynical with the bat.
“It was our most complete batting and bowling performance.”
Harrison said the score of 178 was below par and had they batted first they would have been aiming for at least 200-220 on the board.
He said they were really happy to keep them to that total.
Isuru Yaddehige, Matthew Gaskett and Matthew Strachan all took two wickets each for the Blues.
After being 2-36, the Blues two most experienced players in Malith Cooray and Dimuth Karunarathna got together and set the tempo.
The pair got the Blues within sight of victory when Karunarathna fell for 57.
It mattered little as the Blues made the runs with ease with Cooray finishing 71 not out.
“They batted well,” Harrison said. “They got in and set a temp really well.
“They are very good players and it was nice to see them get in there and get the job done.”
The win moves the Blues to 2-2.
Harrison said it had been a slightly frustrating start to the season.
“We had a one-dayer then a two-dayer and then a match which became a one-dayer,” he said.
“It’s been a stop-start set up so fair. It was nice to have a reasonably good all round performance.”
The challenges don’t get any easier for the Blues who now face Yarraville Club in a two-dayer starting this Saturday.
“The challenges keep coming,” Harrison said. “There’s not a week you go there and think that it’s won.
“We’ll have to play extremely well to have any chance of winning.”
In other results, Deer Park continues to set the standard as it this time accounted for Craigieburn.
The Lions made 5-289 from their overs with Aaron Shellie (139) scoring his third 100 of the season and Daniel Sartori also hitting three figures, finishing 102 not out.
The Eagles were bowled out for 142.
St Albans snuck home against Airport West St Christopher’s.
Airport West made 9-132 which the Saints chased down in the second last over, finishing 5-133.
Sydenham-Hillside was able to upset Yarraville Club.
The Clubber made 195, with the Storm finishing 7-199 in reply.
