A top order batting collapse proved costly for Taylors Lakes against Malvern in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association south-west on Saturday.

Looking for two wins in a row, the Lions elected to bat at home, but it would come back to bite them.

The Lions top order failed, with the side in trouble at 8-49 and looking down the barrel of being bowled out cheaply.

Buddhika Janith along with the last two batters put up some resistance. It wasn’t enough with the side bowled out for 103 with more than 10 overs remaining.

Janith, who was the last man out, top scored with 51, with only one other batter reaching double figures.

The Lions needed early wickets and were able to get one, but the ray of light was short.

Malvern had no issues at all in the run chase, finishing 3-104, sealing the win within 18 overs.

The Lions sit 10th heading into the Christmas break, with three wins.

They are three points outside the top six.

Action will resume on January 8.
