Hillside has reappointed Charlie Denaro as coach for next year’s Essendon District Football League division 1 season. After advertising the role and doing interviews as under the club’s constitution, the club decided Denaro was the best person to continue on in the role. The Sharks finished this year in sixth spot, winning the majority of those games in the back half of the season.

Finalists dominated the Western Region Football League division 1 team of the year which was announced last week. The team included 19 players who played in finals, with Point Cook’s Nicholas Buykx, Sunshine’s Belal Abou-Eid and Brandon Lester the three exceptions. Minor premiers Caroline Springs and grand finalists Altona each had six players named in the team. Among those selected for the Lakers were some of their biggest names. Brian Lake was named at full back, while Mitchell Bongiovanni, Steven Kyriszis, Ryan Allan, Liam Read and Max Tessari were also named in the team. Coach Brodie Holland was named coach of the year, for taking the side to their first division 1 finals series.

PEGS claimed the Victorian Amatuer Football Association division 1 men’s premiership on the back of a strong first quarter. PEGS led Old Camberwell Grammarians 40-1 at quarter time and were able to maintain at least a four goal lead throughout the 12.12 (84)-8.9 (57). It was a big week for PEGS Andrew Horne who claimed the league best and fairest on Wednesday night.

Keilor gun Kaitlyn O’Keefe was recognised as finalist in the Victorian Football League Women’s rising award. In her first season in the VFLW competition, O’Keefe starred for Port Melbourne, playing in the middle of the ground. Essendon captain Georgia Nanscawen took out the two big awards the Lambert-Pearce Medal and the coaches most valuable player award.
