Westgate’s hopes of promotion in FV state league 2 north west remain alive heading into the final round of the season. One of four teams aiming for promotion and the title, Westgate beat Altona East Phoenix 4-0. The win and other results, leaves Westgate second on 42 points, two points behind ladder leaders Upfield.

NPL

Melbourne Knights and Altona Magic had to settle for a 1-1 draw on Friday night in the National Premier League on Friday night. Neither team could score in the first half, before the Knights opened the scoring in the 52nd minute. It was quickly cancelled out, with the Magic scoring nine minutes later. Neither team could find a winner. Green Gully’s match was postponed due to their Australia Cup round of 16 match. In NPL3, North Sunshine Eagles had a 3-3 draw with Western United.

EDFL

It was a round to remember in the Essendon District Football League with several matches either called off or not getting underway due to lightning and wet weather. In premier division, Keilor was one side that got to play a full game, beating East Keilor 8.10 (58)-5.14 (44). The Blues sit second heading into the final round. In division 2, Taylors Lakes finished its season on a high, beating Burnside Heights, 17.13 (115)-10.7 (67), while Keilor Park beat Jacana.

WRFL

St Albans came away with its fifth win of the Western Region Football League division 1 season on Saturday against Yarraville Seddon. The Saints trailed at half time, before five goals to two in the second half to get the 10.13 (73)-9.9 (63). Meanwhile Deer Park slipped to fourth after losing to Altona, while Sunshine was smashed by Werribee Districts and Caroline Springs had a big day out against Point Cook.
