Australia Cup

Calder United and Spring Hills are through to the next round of the Nike F.C Cup. Both sides played on Monday night and were able to come away with wins. Calder in its first match of the cup beat Box Hill United 2-1, while Spring Hills was way too strong for Ashburton United, winning 9-0. Calder United will face neighbours Keilor Park in the next round, with Spring Hills to face Essendon Royals.

AFL draft

Five Keilor players were among those to play in the AFL young game series opening game on Sunday. A host of Victoria’s top prospects in contention for this year’s AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft will feature against a Vic Metro side in the first game. Oskar Smartt and Lachie McArthur were in the young guns side, while Massimo Raso, Lucca Grego and Keighton Matofai-Forbes were in the Vic Metro team. Sunshine’s Xavier Kardachi was also in the Vic Metro side.

WFL

It was one-sided affairs for the majority of the Western Football League division 2 competition on Saturday. Sunshine had a 30.27 (207)-4.4 (28) win against Sunshine Heights, North Sunshine last to Tarneit, 21.18 (144)-4.2 (26), Braybrook lost to Newport, 19.8 (122)-9.11 (65), Albanvale beat Laverton, 16.6 (102)-11.9 (75), while Albion beat the Western Rams, 41.21 (267)-2.2 (14). In division 1, Caroline Springs beat Hoppers Crossing.

VAFA

PEGS came away with a solid win against Glen Eira in the Victorian Amateur Football Association premier C competition on Saturday. Playing at home, PEGS was in front at every break and were able to finish off with four goals to two in the final quarter to seal the 13.6 (84)-8.8 (56) win. Jack Fenner kicked eight goals in a best on ground performance for PEGS. It was PEGS first win of the season. This week it plays AJAX.
