Keilor kicked off its season with a strong win against Greenvale in the Essendon District Football League premier division. The Blues started well, but the Jets stayed in the contest and trailed by nine points at half time. A goal less third quarter by the Jets would be the difference, with the Blues winning 14.8 (92)-8.6 (54). Dean Galea kicked three goals with Nick O’Kearney best on ground. In division 1 Hillside lost to Roxburgh Park, while in division 2, Taylors Lakes, Keilor Park and Burnside Heights all had losses.

Keilor started the Essendon District Football League premier division season where it left off with a win against Moonee Valley. Facing a promoted Moonee Valley side, the Blues won 8.6 (54)-3.6 (24). Laura Wright kicked three goals in a best on ground performance. Hillside lost to Westmeadows 12.10 (82)-3.1 (19), while Burnside Heights lost a thriller to Maribyrnong Park, 8.5 (53)-7.1 (43).

WRFL

Caroline Springs got off to the perfect start to the Western Region Football League division 1 season. Facing Deer Park, the Lakers flew out of the blocks and led by 42 points at half time. A strong second half ensured the side ran out winners, 15.13 (103)-7.6 (48). Max Tessari was named best on ground. Sunshine had a tough start to the season against Hoppers Crossing, losing 19.16 (130)-8.11 (59). In division 2, Albion smashed West Footscray, while division 3 kicks off this weekend.

NPL

Melbourne Knights continued their good form with a good win against Hume City on Friday night. Neither team scored in the first half, before a comprehensive second half performance from the Knights saw them pile on the goals to seal a 3-0 win. Meanwhile, Green Gully lost to Bentleigh Greens 3-0. In NPL 3, North Sunshine Eagles beat Nunawading City, 4-0.
