Around the grounds in Brimbank

Sunshine Heights has unveiled some new signings ahead of next year’s Western Region Football League division 3 season. Utility Johnny Vasiliadis joins the club having previously played with Caroline Springs, Josh Smiley comes from Kyneton, Jack Agius returns having spent this year at Albion and Chris Sarandis joins the club from the Essendon District Football League.

WRFL

Two new clubs are joining the Western Region Football League next season. The league last week confirmed that the VU Spurs would join the competition’s women’s competitions having played in the Northern Football League in recent years. Aintree will field junior sides for the first time, having run an Auskick program the last two years and decided there was the need to grow the program further. NAB League

Andrew Sturgess has been appointed the Calder Cannons new boys coach for next season. Sturgess, who had been coaching Coburg in the Victorian Football League, joins the Cannons on a full time basis with NAB League club’s to have both full time boys and girls coaches. Ross Smith, who has coached both sides in recent years, will remain on as the girls coaches. Smith previously coached the boys team alone, before changes due to COVID-19 meant there was only one coach.

Cricket

Three Keilor players have been named in state squads for the under age national cricket championships. Ruby Gibson has been named in the Vic Metro squad for the under-16s girls event, Josh Pace has been selected in the under-17 Vic Metro team and Mitchell Jamieson has been named in the under-19 Vic Metro team. Pace and Jamieson are both involved at Footscray in Victorian Premier Cricket now.
