Football Australia has revised the start time frame for a new National Second Tier competition, with the competition now set to start in 2025. The competition had been set to start in 2024. This updated schedule will not only facilitate the finalisation of the competition structure but also grants all stakeholders sufficient time to finalise all logistical, regulatory, and operational aspects to guarantee a successful inauguration of the competition. Melbourne Knights and Green Gully are two clubs that have been still part of the process. Football Australia recently completed the third phase of the planning.

Taylors Lakes has announced the signing of Ben Weightman for next year’s Essendon District Football League division 2 season, Weightman, a renowned goalkicker, has played in the Victorian Football League with Port Melbourne and most recently was co-coach at Mt Pleasant. The Lions have also announced a number of re-signings as they look to improve on a preliminary final run this year.

Keilor forward Matthew Clark is leaving the Essendon District Football League premier division premiers. Tyabb announced that they had signed Clark for next season. Clark was the key target up forward for the Blues as they went through the season undefeated this year, after winning the league goal kicking award the previous year.

Netball

Teams are still being sought for a new under-19 netball competition. The competition is being run by the Altona Netball Association and Waverley Netball Centre after the decision to cut the under-19 Victorian Netball League program. The competition is still seeking a couple more teams for the western division, which includes teams from the City West Falcons and Darley Football Netball Club. Applications close later this year.
