SUNSHINE is ducking for cover after a sub-par opening to the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association Legends and Heroes Twenty20 competition.
The Crows were routed for a dismal 44 in search of Williamstown’s 9-87 in a bowler-dominated clash at Dempster Park on Tuesday.
Crows captain Troy Stone told the Weekly it was a bleak evening for the club.
“It was a bit embarrassing,” he said.
“There’s no excuses.
“We just didn’t apply ourselves.
“We had some pretty poor shot selection, which cost is in the end.”
The Crows made a hot start to the game, having the Seagulls in trouble at 5-29.
The visitors’ tail wagged and they rustled up a competitive 87 — a score the Crows never got near. The Crows got a glimpse into the future with three under-21s — James Leach, Josh Michetti and Ben Luca — included in the line-up.
Stone says it was not the youngsters who let the side down.
“They were the shining lights for us, took a couple of wickets and top-scored with the bat,” he said. “No complaints there.”
