Local sporting clubs are being urged to nominate for this year’s Community Sport and Recreation Awards.
wards, now in their 18th year, recognise the hard work and successes of local sports clubs, players, volunteers and umpires.
Launching the awards, Minister for Sport – and former Geelong player and Fremantle coach – Damian Drum said they were important in recognising the work that goes on behind the scenes.
“We are committed to a more active Victoria and community sport is the main vehicle to achieve that,” Drum said.
“Without the help of committed and dedicated sports community volunteers, sport just wouldn’t happen and we’d lose all the associated health and social benefits that it brings.
“I encourage as many people as possible to get their nominations in and support their local clubs, individuals and initiatives by nominating them for the awards.”
They will be presented at the MCG on October 1. There are eight categories, with the winner of each taking home $3,000 and two runners-up receiving $1,000. There is also the Minister’s Award, for outstanding achievement, worth $5,000.
