World Cup: Young Caroline Springs star has his eye on prize

Budding soccer star and Caroline Springs resident Jake Najdovski is all geared up for this year’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The talented nine-year-old will be waking up in the wee hours of the morning, along with his devoted dad Dennis, to watch most of the games but is particularly keen to see his beloved Socceroos battling it out on the field.

And the pint-sized striker has been busily honing his skills at Keilor Football Star Academy in the lead-up to the opening match this Thursday.

The Liverpool fan has spent the past three years perfecting his technique at the soccer skills training program and hopes to one day play in the A-League and eventually head overseas to make a name for himself.

“I love soccer because it’s a fascinating sport and I love playing it,” Jake said.

“Football Star Academy helps develop my skills and I love the way the coach trains us,” he said. As for his inspiration, Jake said renowned Argentine captain Lionel Messi comes in at number one.

To coincide with the World Cup, Football Star Academy will hold free one hour soccer clinics this Saturday, June 14 at Keilor Downs College, 100-110 Odessa Avenue, Keilor Downs. Call 1300 372 300.
