NPL: Sunshine George Cross loses to Dandenong City

Two first-half goals to Dandenong City were enough to sink Sunshine George Cross in National Premier League soccer at the weekend.

After trailing City 2-0 at half-time, Sunshine continued to fight out the match and managed to get one of the goals back.

That came through the dangerous Delfin Mosibe Esara, who has now scored a goal in all but one of his matches for Sunshine this season.

Despite the Georgies’ best efforts, there was no equaliser.

The 2-1 loss is Sunshine’s second defeat for the season.

After Saturday’s game, the Georgies are second on the NPL1 ladder, five points behind Avondale Heights SC.

When round nine begins this week, Sunshine will take on fourth-placed Box Hill United SC.

In other weekend matches, Keilor Park enjoyed a 2-0 win against the Fawkner Blues in men’s state league 1.

In an even performance across the field, Keilor Park scored in both the first and second halves to seal the two-goal win.

Lorenzo Carbone continued his brilliant season, kicking his fourth goal for the past three weeks for Keilor Park. Patrick Grigg joined him on the score sheet.

The win closes the gap on Fawkner, which went into round seven with a one-point lead at the top of the table. The Blues are now equal with Keilor Park on 13 points and remain in first spot on goal difference. Cairnlea and Sydenham Park are in third and fourth respectively.
