Fast-finishing Taylors Lakes secured a thrilling two-point victory against Oak Park in the Essendon District Football League on Saturday.
The Lions were behind by 20 points going into quarter time. With the next two quarters unfolding in similar fashion, it looked as if Oak Park was on its way to celebrating its first win of the season.
But Taylors Lakes had other ideas, launching a last-gasp comeback effort in front of their home crowd.
The Lions shut Oak Park down defensively in the final term and gave up just three behinds for the quarter.
There were no such scoring problems at the other end as Taylors Lakes combined for four majors to turn a 20-point deficit into a two-point win.
The 9.9 (63) to 8.13 (61) victory is the club’s third win of the season.
In wet and windy conditions Mark Xuereb showed his class by booting four majors.
He was well supported by Adem Asani, who kicked three goals and won a lot of important ball around the ground.
The Lions are fourth place on the division one ladder with a 3-1 record.
This week they will take on the sixth-placed Hadfield.
In other weekend results, Keilor remains unbeaten in premier division after a six-point win against Essendon Doutta Stars and Keilor Park and East Keilor were big winners in division two.
