WRFL: Sunshine Kangaroos act to fix ‘weaker’ areas

Sunshine has added two important pieces in the push to close the gap on the top teams in the Western Region Football League division 1 this season.

The Kangaroos, finalists last season, have welcomed back midfielder Jake Allen from VFL club Port Melbourne and bolstered the forward line with the addition of Melton Bloods’ Darren Haby.

Allen featured mainly in the development league at Port but also played in the powerful senior side.

He is one of a host of new players who will improve the midfield, an area coach Brett Jacobs felt needed a lift when lined up against last year’s top two.

“We were really happy with our season last year and felt we made some giant strides,” Jacobs said.

“We need to cement that and keep improving, or we’ll fall back to where we were three or four years ago.”

Haby will add some potency to the Kangaroos forward line.

“He’s a big, strong brute of a lad,” Jacobs said.

“He hasn’t missed a training session, so he’s champing at the bit and ready to go.”

The season starts on April 4.
