Caroline Springs police will swap blue for white next Monday when they pad up for a cricket match to promote peace on and off the pitch.
Officers from the north-west metro region and the Victoria Police Cricket Club will combine to take on an Indian community side in a Twenty20 match at Sunshine Heights Cricket Club from midday.
The match, to be umpired by Brimbank police Superintendent Glenn Weir, is aimed at building understanding between police and the Indian community.
“Many Indians are students who come to Melbourne with little or no contacts in our community,” Acting Inspector Greg Hinton said. “This event is an opportunity for them to meet police in an informal environment and interact with us on a social level.
“It’s a chance for us to speak to them in a safe and fun environment about a range of issues, while building valuable relationships.”
