VTCA: Vale’s Dolliver scythes Sunshine YCW

Sunshine YCW managed to avoid an outright loss to Wyndham Vale in the west B1 division of the Victorian Turf Cricket Association on Saturday.

Resuming at 1-36, YCW crashed to be all out for 73 in just 33.4 overs. They had no answer for Jay Dolliver, who finished with the sensational figures of 6-12 from 13.4 overs, bowling five maidens.

Jake Styles was just as crucial at the other end, chiming in with 3-21 from 17 overs, which included 12 maidens.

John Blake was best with the bat for YCW, making 25, with captain Chris Armstrong the only other batsman to reach double figures (15). Searching for an outright victory, the Vales sent YCW back in and they finished the day 3-69. John Blake hit 34 and Joe Blake finished 18 not out. Styles sent down four maidens and picked up 1-0; Jonathan Ford had 1-13 and Ben Funnell 1-23. The loss leaves YCW last on the 11-team table, behind the similarly winless Footscray ANA and Kingsville Baptists. YCW hosts third-placed Newport-Digman over the next fortnight.

In senior division, Keilor made 212 but fell well short of South Caulfield’s gargantuan 4-408. South Caulfield chose to bat again and scored 3-123 from 18 overs, with skipper Luke Russell belting 68 from just 37 balls.

In the north division, Keilor Park had a six-run victory over Doutta Stars. Setting the Stars 207 for victory, Keilor Park rolled them for 200 from 81.1 overs. Captain Jamie Manning and Dilshan Udage Kankanamage each picked up three wickets.

In North A1, Sunshine Druids enjoyed a comfortable win over Craigieburn. Setting their opponents 320 for victory, the Druids bowled Craigieburn out for 232, with Leigh Wilson (4-16) and Shane Windridge (2-49) leading the way with the ball. Batting again, the Druids reached 3-40 from 13 overs.

St Albans couldn’t defend its meagre 116 against Youlden Parkville, which chased the target down with a wicket to spare. Taylors Lakes’ total of 5-388 proved too good for St Andrews (196). Taylors Lakes reached 6-115 in its second innings.

In West B1, Sunshine United bowled Footscray ANA out for 97 to get first innings points; Sunshine Heights was dismissed for 69 after Seabrook’s 170; and Deer Park Ardeer tied Barkly Street Uniting (both 176) .
