EDFL division 1: Taylors Lakes out of the race

TULLAMARINE may have kicked fewer goals but did enough to hold off Taylors Lakes and advance in the Essendon District Football League division 1 finals.

Northern Saints is waiting in the grand final for the winner of this weekend’s preliminary final after beating Glenroy by 21 points.

Tullamarine kicked three goals against the scoring end in the last quarter to win 9.19 (73) to 10.8 (68), ending Taylors Lakes’ season.

Tullamarine dominated early but kicked inaccurately, 4.7 to a point in the first term, before Taylors Lakes hit back to the scoring end of Sewell Reserve.

The second half was more of an arm wrestle, Tullamarine’s second crack with the wind yielding 2.6 to Taylors Lakes’ 1.2 in the third term.

Craig Steele and Adam Sayers were Tullamarine’s best while Jesse Greenwood and three-goal Mark Xuereb were best for the Lions.

The Saints exchanged the lead regularly with Glenroy through the first three quarters at Greenvale, leading by a kick at the last change.

But Houssam Ahmed and Nazih Abbouchi stepped up along with four-goal Rocky Ferraro to get the Saints out to a comfortable margin in the last term, winning 14.15 (99) to 11.12 (78).

Danny Campbell and Travis Dulic were Glenroy’s best.

The preliminary final between Glenroy and Tullamarine will be at Coburg City Oval from  2.15pm this Sunday.
