EDFL premier: Keilor ends season on a high

KEILOR’S season came to an end on a strong note, the Blues pumping
finalists Airport West by 54 points in the Essendon District Football
League premier division on Saturday.

It was the eighth win of the season for the Blues – their first
over a top-four team this year – and capped off a terrific final month
of four wins at an average of 10 goals.

Just one point separated the teams at quarter time, Keilor holding the edge after an exciting opening term.

But the Blues were too strong in the second quarter, booting six goals to one to take a 33-point lead to the main break.

The Eagles closed the gap slightly in the third term but Keilor
would not be denied, booting five goals in the final quarter to record
an emphatic victory.

Jarrod Garth kicked five to take his season tally to 53, while Ricky Marcy was best on ground with four goals.

“We had intentions to finish the year strongly and we did,” Blues coach Mick McGuane said.

“When you get to a point in late July, early August and you know
mathematically that you can’t qualify, you look at the attitude of the
group and I have to commend the players in the way they conducted
themselves in games and at training.”
