WRFL: Braybrook Bombers aim to shake off thrashing

BRAYBROOK will look to finish the season strongly after a harrowing 22.17 (149) to 2.3 (15) loss to Manor Lakes in Western Region Football League division 2 on Friday night.

With games to come against North Sunshine, Sanctuary Lakes and Laverton, Braybrook can aim for seven wins, a significant improvement on the four registered in 2012.

The writing was on the wall early against Manor Lakes,  with Braybrook scoreless in the opening term and trailing by 74 at half time.

The Bombers were unable to restrict the Storm through the midfield and with Josh Derich (four goals), Blake Pilkington (four), Justin Palmer (three) and Nathan Smithwick (three) all busy, Braybrook had no answers.

Dalas Smith and Terry Sinclair got the only goals for the Bombers, while Luke Fox and Jay Burke were again among the best players.

Elsewhere, Caroline Springs shot to seventh on the ladder with a 8.6 (54) to 2.3 (15) win over Albanvale. The Lakers set up the win in the second term and led by 28  at half time.

North Sunshine lost again, this time going down 17.4 (106) to 3.9 (27) against Sanctuary Lakes.

The Roadrunners kicked two goals in the opening term but trailed by 16 by the quarter-time siren. Glenn Sullivan booted two of their three.

Sunshine Heights lost 9.16 (70) to 4.6 (30) against ladder-leaders Glen Orden. Inaccuracy kept the Dragons in the match early, with Glen Orden’s nine shots to two in the opening term giving it only a seven-point lead.

The Dragons trailed by just 13 at half time, but the Hawks booted five to one in the third to put the result beyond doubt.
