VNL: City West Falcons into grand final

CITY West Falcons will return to the Victorian Netball League championship division grand final after a 50-43 win over Peninsula Waves in the major semi-final at the State Netball and Hockey Centre on Wednesday night.

Defending champion Falcons went into the game as underdogs having spent most of the season trailing in the Waves’ wake.

What the Falcons did have in abundance over the No. 1-  ranked side was finals experience and they used every bit of that knowledge to lay the platform for the seven-goal victory. Falcons settled better, taking a three-goal lead into the first break, a lead they held on to and extended.

Waves goaler Mwayi Kum- wenda posed the greatest threat,  the Malawi international hitting 30 from 32 attempts.

But the Falcons had scoring power of their own with Julia Knott (33 from 45) and Maggie Lind (17 from 19). The Falcons get the week off before a July 31 grand final against the victor of tomorrow night’s preliminary final between the Waves and VU-Western Lightning.
