DEER Park has made a winning start under new player-coach Marc Bullen with an 18-point win over St Albans in the Western Region Football League division 1 tonight.
The Lions were victorious 7.15 (57) to 5.9 (39) in a low scoring affair under lights at Kings Park Reserve.
It is a massive blow for the Ian Denny-coached Saints, who are now 0-2 after consecutive losses to two of the top-flight’s genuine finals contenders.
The wayward Lions managed just 1.8 in the first half, but kicked four in the third term to break the game wide open.
Josh Jones was the Lions only multiple goalkicker with two goals, while Shylo Smith, Shannon Broadbent and Kevin Klix were named in the best.
For the Saints, Marc Dawson booted two of his side’s five goals, while dual Barry Priest Medal winner Tim Jenkins was best.
The first round of division 1 continues on Saturday, including the grand final re-match between Altona Vikings and Spotswood at Grant Reserve.
