The old school yard is getting a makeover. St Albans Primary School pupils will soon be experiencing the great outdoors in learning and playing spaces with a difference.
The school is putting $20,000 towards an outdoor sensory garden that will complement a playground that already has traditional sports ovals and rectangles.
The St Albans pupils also have zones for art, performance, construction and just ‘chilling out’ over board games.
“We’d like to have a gazebo area, perhaps with a trampoline,” principal Joanne Richmond said.
The school is one of 33 statewide to receive an ‘inclusive schools grant’ for students with special needs.
A state government spokesman said the school had many new refugee pupils, including those with disabilities who deserved a helping hand.
