A forum exploring the talents of young artists in the west is expected to draw up to 200 participants next month.
The second Movement Makers Youth Arts Forum, organised by young people passionate about sharing creativity on November 20 is a key part of the Big West Festival.
Steering committee member Oti Dabzie said the forum, which brings together students, artists, teachers, youth and community workers, is open to anyone interested in seeing and sharing with new generations of artists and art workers.
“It will showcase, inspire and create discussion,” he said. “It will show people how to use their talents to be an active citizen … to express why youth arts are so important.”
The forum will also outline the social importance of youth arts, and foster professional development and employment opportunities in the youth and community arts sectors.
Free, live performances are also scheduled for the end of the forum, which marks the official opening of Big West Festival, next door to the Footscray library from 6-9pm.
Brimbank council’s community wellbeing director, Neil Whiteside, said the forum was an opportunity for young people interested in the creative industries to connect with like-minded people and learn more about the journeys and talents of young artists in the west.
