Youngsters gets slimey during school holiday activities

It was gooey, stretchy and gross at Melton and Caroline Springs last week as children used test tubes, pipettes and syringes to make slime as part of Melton council’s school holiday activities.

Five more activities have been scheduled in Melton, Caroline Springs and Diggers Rest this week, with popular children’s author and entertainer Andy Jones expected to be a hit with children at Caroline Springs at 10.30am and Melton at 2pm on Thursday, July 7.

Game on for reserve

Sports clubs are warmed up and ready to use the newly opened hockey and athletics facilities at the Bridge Road Recreation Reserve in Melton South. The $11.3 million reserve development features a synthetic athletics track and field, hockey pitches, a multi-purpose competition venue with a training area, and a community pavilion.

Measle fears

There could be a potential spread of measles infection in Melbourne’s western suburbs, the health department has warned.

Three cases of measles in Victoria have been confirmed in the past week, and while the department said there was no direct connection between the three, investigations suggested there could be a potential spread of infection in Geelong, the Surf Coast, and Melbourne’s west and north-west suburbs. T

The three victims were aged between 18 and 30, became infected in early to mid-June and none had recently travelled overseas.

Calling all candidates

Moorabool residents who are considering running for council can hone up on what’s involved at an information session. Council will also host a public information session on July 12 at its Ballan office. Details: www.standforcouncil.com.au
