A St Albans design student has flown to Sydney to pit her skills against the country’s best.

Isabella Di Giacomo, 19, a student at Kangan Institute, has been selected by WorldSkills Australia to compete at the WorldSkills National Championships.

Ms Di Giacomo will compete in the fashion technology competition at the skills show.

She said the event is a massive opportunity to further her career.

“The competition allows me to show what I’ve learnt in design because it involves almost every aspect of the design-making process,” she said. “It provides a really great chance to network with people in the industry and create some valuable contacts.”

Ms Di Giacomo earned her place at the championships after a strong performance at the 2017 WorldSkills Australia Regional Competitions and hopes her journey can continue.
