Melbourne-based writer Sam van Zweden will be teaching Braybrook residents about how to weave the real world into fiction writing in a nuanced and subtle way.
The Writing Your World workshop will be held at the Braybrook library on Saturday, June 25 from 11am until 1pm, with visitors welcome from 10.45am for light refreshments.
Ms van Zweden is a writer interested in experimental nonfiction, essays, mental health, body writing, food, and memory.
Her collection of personal essays, Eating With My Mouth Open, won the 2019 KYD Unpublished Manuscript award and was published in February 2021.
Writers and performers Thabani Tshuma and Bella Waru will also present their writings as part of the Writing the Stars event, which will involve attendees enjoying a show in the Melbourne Planetarium followed by star-inspired original performances.
A group of three writers will also share their thoughts about what attracts them to write about the west as part of the Writing the West workshop.
Jinghua Qian, Harry Reid and Khalid Warsame will present as part of the workshop at the Footscray library on Tuesday, June 21 from 6pm until 7pm.
The festival will also include the launch of a multi-disciplinary exhibition named Same River Twice.
Same River Twice is an outcome of Footscray Community Arts West Writers program and is presented in partnership with Footscray Community Arts.
The exhibition is running from Wednesday, June 15 to Sunday, July 3 at 45 Moreland Street in Footscray, while the launch will be held on Tuesday, June 21 from 7.30pm.
Tickets are limited in all events, so people are encouraged to book online as soon as possible.
