A Deer Park woman’s passion for writing and love for life is playing a role in uniting women.
Alyssa Ho’s inspirational quotes on love and life have evolved into a popular enterprise that has grown from social media to real-time meetings.
“I had a friend tell me that I should share my posts on social media, so I created an Instagram account and it took off,” Ms Ho said.
“It really connected with people. I’ve accumulated over 14,000 followers and an article I wrote for Elite Daily has been shared over a million times.”
Ms Ho said that while it was nice to see her work well supported, it was the connection with her audience that continued to inspire her.
“I’ve never really placed any expectation on what I write, but when I see so many people relate to my work, it’s incredibly rewarding. I’m always trying to connect with people.”
With a loyal fan base behind her, Ms Ho has been able to turn the venture into a support platform for women.
“I noticed when I was writing, that most of the people who were sending me messages and asking for advice were women,” she said.
“A lot of these women didn’t have anyone else to go to for advice, so I got thinking about ways to bring everyone together.”
From that idea came My Go To Gal, a support network that provides a great space for participants to make new friends.
My Go To Gal began as a private Facebook group in which women could ask each other for advice and post inspirational quotes each day. The group now has more than 2500 members.
After seeing friendships forming, Club 23 at Crown invited the group to host a meet-up and cocktail party last April.
Since then the group has had two brunches in Melbourne and an official launch party attended by more than 150 women.
The group will hold its next get together this weekend.
“My overall goal is to bring women together as it breaks my heart to know that there are girls who feel alone, ostracised and don’t have many friends to confide in,” Ms Ho said.
